New Biodiesel Plant To Open In Gans
If you think gas prices are high, you might want to switch to using an alternative form of fuel that’s comparable in price but also safer for the environment.
Officials said a new biodiesel plant is in the works in Gans, Okla.
Erik Davis of OK Biodiesel said his fuel smells just like cooking oil and is safer for the environment, and his prices are comparable and often cheaper than conventional diesel sold at gas stations.
Davis said the fuel is made from soybeans that are grown in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
There is no need to modify an engine before using it, as long as the equipment or vehicle is already made to run on diesel. Experts say biodiesel is also environmentally friendly, about 98 percent biodegradable. He said that if it’s spilled on the ground, it won’t be a hazard.
“There’s very little emissionable,” Davis said. “It has five times more lubricating ability than regular diesel fuel.”
Davis said that helps make fuel pumps and engines last longer.
He said he hopes to have pumps in front of his plant open to the public this summer.
The initial plan is to charge about 15 cents less for biodiesel than for regular before selling it at prices comparable to conventional diesel. Davis said biodiesel fuel will also be available at truck stops in the River Valley this summer as well.
Other biodiesel plants are in the works nearby, including one in Durant, Okla.
